Unpacking

  • Care is needed when checking the kit to not leave the pieces (especially bed aluminium parts) where someone clumsy can walk on them and bend them more than they already are (thanks Alan!)
  • Keep the box to cut insulation for bed modification later – I didn’t so I had to find some cardboard

Extra Tools

  • LED magnifying headband (ROLSON 60390 or similar) is essential both for build and later (unless you have superhuman eyesight), I bought it later and wished I had it during the build process
  • If you do not have a set of tuning needles, don’t bother if you have some small screwdrivers, they are only used for tuning the trimmer for the stepper motors, with the headband this is OK with small screwdrivers
  • DO NOT buy the Bournes trimming tool recommended by Rapid it is totally useless for the task used (it may become useful someday but not NOW!)
  • In addition to the tools recommended for the build I would highly recommend an automatic wire stripper (for wiring)
  • A pair of heavier duty cutters (1 task but they are always useful and prevent damage to your soft wire cutters)
  • Micrometer screw gauge (optional) I find it much easier to use the micrometer rather than the digital caliper for measuring filament diameter and calibration prints

Extra Parts

  • Glass plates – from local hardware shop preferably 2mm x 205mm x 215mm, my local shop had a piece about 8" wide so I got him to cut 215mm lengths so mine are 2mm x 200mm x 215mm £4.00 for 3
  • Bulldog clips x2 – for
  • Springs – box from Maplins shop £4.00
  • Nuts and Bolts – box from Maplins shop £4.00

Consumables

  • Extra filament 2.95mm
  • PrintaFix Basic
